Good morning all! This week is our SAL for GK projects, and I'll be continuing on with my Woman. Will anyone be joining in?

I drove to Ballarat today and spent two to three hours with friends. I now have a half-made brand new stitching stand. It's a bit more than half made. All I have to do is screw the arms together and bolt them to the back board and it's usable. It's going to be fun getting it in the front door because its pretty big. After I've used it a bit I'll add a few trays and other knick-knacks and hooks. I need a chart holder but for now I can peg the chart to a piece of cardboard and clamp the cardboard to the back board.

It's all made out of free timber that Len acquired over time (from a place that had a 'help yourself' skip out the front that they put off-cuts and flawed pieces in) so it has only cost me the price of four bolts with wingnuts on them (so far). It's not pretty but it's functional. There's no point in using new timber until I've used it and know I've got the height and everything else right. Len used his screws that he bought in bulk and he gave me some washers for the bolts to bring home. I gave his wife Woodstump and she'll get it framed for her year old grand-daughter. Two hours of work, a few screws and a bit of timber are a good exchange for 200 to 300 hours of stitching, aren't they? I reckon I got a good bargain because I got to enjoy the stitching while I did it and I know it will be appreciated. I could have made the stand but I find it hard to get started and Len is a lot quicker and has better equipment. I'll do some pictures when I've screwed the arms on (hopefully Sunday). Right now I want to fall into bed. It's good sleeping weather (about 13 at night, I think). We've been having perfect weather lately - maximums between 20 and 30, but mostly around 24 to 25. Bliss!

Glenda, it doesn't matter one little bit what it looks like, as long as it does the job! I hope you have years of stitching on it - I'll await your photos.
